Test Drive 005
WELCOME TO ATERAT

Here is our Fifth Test Drive Meme! There are a lot of areas of the city to explore, so please have a look around! In case you need a little help getting started, I've included a few prompts below, or feel free to start your own! Exploration and player initiative are the names of the game here!

Helpful Links to Get Started

Arrival & General Information | Setting & Bestiary | Locales & Businesses | Residences & Housing Info | Rules & FAQ (ask questions here!)

I. Crash Into Me
Not exactly, but close enough. You have just arrived and received a strange satchel from a tiny, strange little man and are left more or less to your own devices (more information on what to expect upon arrival can be found here)! Follow directions to the north and check out the housing, or maybe have a look around the Historium and try to get some information from that giant glowing ball, see what you can waste your meager starter coin on in the Market District, or maybe just meet the neighbors.
II. What Goes Bump in the Night
It looks like Aterat proper has a spirit problem. Maybe you're seeing specters, hearing disembodied voices, your windows rattle when there's no breeze outside. Maybe there are cold spots in your place of business (or your apartment, which is so much worse). Either way, you're 100% convinced you're haunted. Hopefully, someone else believes you, or maybe you're used to feeling crazy.
III. A Mean, Green Mother from where now?
There's a pollen problem in the city, and by that we mean it's everywhere. Yellowish green pollen seems to be caked-on everything with the misfortune of being outside, whether it's windows, banisters, carts, you name it. If it's outside for a duration of time, it's a free game to have a layer of dust settled upon it, and it plays havoc on anyone who breathes it in. Allergic to pollen? Your allergies are horrible. Not allergic, well, you might just have the sniffles anyway, and another problem. You seem to be completely unable to tell a lie. Not only that, but you feel the overwhelming need to tell people things you'd usually keep to yourself. Maybe you like to put cream in your coca-cola (you monster) or maybe you've done something terrible and you really need to get it off your chest either in person or over the network.
IV. Try the Network
The Tell-Phone allows for text, video, and audio transmissions to everyone else who has one. Give it a whirl!
V. Wildcard
The above prompts are all options, and there's much more to the setting than what they provide. Do your best (or your worst)!

"It seems that strange is a common occurrence here." She placed her fingers thoughtfully against her chin before clapping her hands together. "Alright. I've decided." Fiona grinned at Llewellyn, "You shall be my guide today. How does that sound? I don't have much money but I am sure that I will be able to pay you."

It was awkward owning people, even in small amounts.

"I don't know my way around the city and I'd like to become acquainted with the shops." She glanced down at the lavish blue dress she was wearing. "This is all that I arrived with." Fiona didn't have a lot of keepsakes but it was inconvenient not to have her dresses with her. She couldn't wear the same thing every day, even if she used her magic to wash her clothes.

Llewellyn watched as she seemed to come to some sort of decision. “Hm? Oh- Well, I’d be happy to show you around.” He started with a clumsy grin, though he shrugged his shoulders lightly. “You don’t have to pay me for it though, you’ll um… You’ll need to hang on to what you have for now while you get settled in.” Sure, he was trying to keep himself on a strict budget and working two jobs at the moment in hopes of saving for a house for him and Rhy… But charging to show someone around who was new seemed in poor taste.

As Fiona continued, he glanced around to get a better idea of where they were. Yes, he knew his way around, but he was also very easily distracted. “Well! In that case, I know one place I should definitely show you.” She would need a few changes of clothes, and what she was wearing was already very nice. “There’s an excellent tailor shop in this city. They do all sorts of clothing and, uh- I know the apprentice tailor there.” He smiled, intending to recommend Rhy’s work to her. He was proud of the man and his improvements, and he liked to help boost the business and give his husband new customers.

"It's alright. I have ways to earn more than enough money." She didn't need very much to live on. As long as she was able to purchase food. From what she'd been told she was given a room and while it wasn't what she was used to, it was better than living on the streets as Fiona had.

"That sounds perfect. I will need more clothes but I would be happy with simpler dresses too." She hadn't been able to tell Able that she liked simple clothing. He wouldn't hear of such things though it's likely because he had too much money.

With a deft hand, she reached into her new purse and found two coins to hand over to Llewellyn. "I'll be in your care."

“That so?” Llewellyn asked with a curious tone. But he’s not taking her money. She’d be left with her hands held out as he gestured for her to follow him. He was a stubborn man, and difficult. “What sort of work do you do, if you don’t mind me asking? I could probably offer you recommendations for places to look for work, since I’ve been around for a little while.” He tended to be on speaking terms with many of the businesses, especially those that involved food… Llewellyn had always valued having connections. It sometimes came in handy for casework.

“I’m sure they’ll have something to your liking. My husband and I had to purchase a few simple things to get by with when we arrived too.” They had been working on expanding that since then, though Llewellyn had been rather busy to pin down for exploring his own wardrobe by much compared to Rhy. A few very nice pieces, certainly, but he had been slower to it than usual. The man couldn’t sit still, and he’d been very big on ‘prioritizing’ in this place. A worry-wart.

He did eventually notice her holding out the coins, but kept walking with a raised brow. “If you’re insistent, then perhaps you can purchase hot chocolates to keep us warm for the walk.” It would cost less than she intended to pay him, but hopefully put an end to her insistence.

Fiona blinked at the refusal of her offer. It was strange and incredibly rude but she had a feeling that this man had good intentions. For now, she tucked the money back into her side and stepped to follow him. "I could do that." She hadn't had hot chocolate in a very long time but she liked sweets and chocolate most of all.

"I am a mage." It didn't seem like magic as usual here, so she didn't try to hide it. She had used her skills to defeat horrible monsters and then collect their parts and sell them. It was easy to make a lot of money when her job was inherently dangerous.

Sometimes he was like that, rude in his well-meaning way. So he was satisfied when she agreed she could do that. It would be a nice treat for both of them and a nice addition to her tour. It was a bit of a winding one. Of course, Llewellyn wanted to make sure she got a look at the landmarks, shops of interest, and such on their way to the clothing shop.

He nodded quickly at her explanation, “Mm… Well! You shouldn’t have much issue finding work then. This world has a lot of options for people with magic, I think. Always something magical or near enough to it going on, it seems.” And everyone seemed to have useful abilities to contribute, so it seemed like almost a necessary aspect to those brought here. Well- him aside, he supposed. Sometimes he felt like a bit of an anomaly when compared to the other arrivals.

A winding tour was perfect and it gave her a detailed layout of the city. It was easy to note the important locations throughout the city, knowing that all city streets were connected from either north to south or east to west.

"That's good to hear." She hadn't doubted it, of course she'd written her character as the most powerful sorcerer's in the world. Not that it was the same in this world but that would no doubt meant that she lacked in power.

"What is it that you do in the city?"

“Me?” He glanced sidelong as they turned down another street, before his eyes wandered to the buildings as he tried to pick out the location he was looking for.

“I work as a detective at an office in the city, help solve… Well... I guess whatever case they give me to look into, that one thinks I could assist with.” He was a little less sure of himself on that front of late, but he still tried his best. He was useful for doing footwork, and providing unexpected paths of thought to follow, if nothing else. “And a part-time florist at a place on the outskirts near the lodge.”
