Test Drive 006
WELCOME TO ATERAT

Here is our Fifth Test Drive Meme! There are a lot of areas of the city to explore, so please have a look around! In case you need a little help getting started, I've included a few prompts below, or feel free to start your own! Exploration and player initiative are the names of the game here!

Helpful Links to Get Started

Arrival & General Information | Setting & Bestiary | Locales & Businesses | Residences & Housing Info | Rules & FAQ (ask questions here!)

I. Crash Into Me
Not exactly, but close enough. You have just arrived and received a strange satchel from a tiny, strange little man and are left more or less to your own devices (more information on what to expect upon arrival can be found here)! Follow directions to the north and check out the housing, or maybe have a look around the Historium and try to get some information from that giant glowing ball, see what you can waste your meager starter coin on in the Market District, or maybe just meet the neighbors.
II. What Goes Bump in the Night
It looks like Aterat proper has a spirit problem. Maybe you're seeing specters, hearing disembodied voices, your windows rattle when there's no breeze outside. Maybe there are cold spots in your place of business (or your apartment, which is so much worse). Either way, you're 100% convinced you're haunted. Hopefully, someone else believes you, or maybe you're used to feeling crazy.
III. When the Carnival Came to Town?
Take a look at the prompts from our latest event and go to town (or the carnival).
IV. Try the Network
The Tell-Phone allows for text, video, and audio transmissions to everyone else who has one. Give it a whirl!
V. Wildcard
The above prompts are all options, and there's much more to the setting than what they provide. Do your best (or your worst)!

There was something very thoughtful and sweet about Haru trying to avoid burdening him with the truth… But at the same time? Not knowing felt worse in its own way. Because he had been wondering on more than on occasion since arriving about the identity of the back masked individual. Wondered what they were going to do next, the delay in being brought to this world feeling like he was trapped in some odd limbo.

At the same time, it was also a little worrying to think that she felt like the knowledge would be a burden, giving him the impression that things were going to be both complicated and upsetting…

But… To not ask would be hiding from an inevitable truth, ignoring something and pretending wouldn’t do… Not at all, not now… Even if he did stay in the dark? He would only to continue wondering and letting the worry fester unchecked. Knowing the answer was there for him and not asking would bother him as much as knowing the potentially upsetting truth of all this. He could even accidentally put his foot in his mouth, or stumble onto another sensitive topic if he didn’t know. “I appreciate your concern. It’s very kind of you… But I would like to know. It’s been something on my mind often enough since I arrived.” Shaking his head a little, he continued. “And I fear in not knowing, I may inadvertently blunder blindly into a subject that may be troubling for you as well.” Like with her father, after all. “So even if the truth of the future is troubling, I believe it would be worse for me to remain in the dark.”

Heroes in a novel? What a positively fun thought, really. A nice positive look over the potential negatives. “It would seem that is the role given to those of us brought here. The tales I’ve heard from others who’ve been here longer than myself are quite extraordinary.” And worrying… But that was also why he was happy to help explain the place they’d found themselves. Better to know than to wander around as he had with very little knowledge and almost ending up on the wrong side of something his first day. “There appear to be all manner spaces needing people to fill, and problems that call one to action. I have yet to offer aid, given I’m still awaiting to secure a weapon, but there is much to learn about it in the meantime.” Which was important before acting, of course. Better to know the place than to run in headlong without understanding.

“You won’t have long to wait. They’re nearly everywhere in the city; and they’re hard to miss. They have brilliantly coloured plumage.” He described with a smile, having already made them a subject of some sketches and drafts for paintings when he was sitting in the market. It would actually be nice, he realized, to see what she thought of things as he showed her around and helped her get settled in.

So she had a key instead of a note? Yusuke tapped his chin thoughtfully, tilting his head. That meant she was definitely older than him, likely nearing the end of her time in high school. At least the orphanage was close to the apartment buildings, so it wouldn’t be hard to show her where they were. “I see… The apartments aren’t far from where I was placed when I arrived. What colour is your key? Everyone seems to be sorted by colour for some unknown reason.”

Haru stayed silent as he seemed to struggle with a response to her inquiry. There was no doubt it was a difficult decision for him, it would have been for her as well, so she felt no desire to rush him. The truth was so important to all of them and she probably should have guessed what he'd choose. She gave him a tiny nod and a halfhearted smile.

"To tell everything would be a very long story." And truthfully, she didn't think she was particularly good at recounting stories. However, she was determined to do her best to give a brief summary of the most troubling aspects. "After my father's..." it felt like something was stuck in her throat for a moment as the image of her father's death came into her mind. "A-after his death things got very bad. His...his death was broadcast. He was meant to confess to his crimes, as all others had done before. Instead a mental shut down was induced right then there..." For everyone, including her, to see. "Of course, you all were very distraught and convinced it was a mistake on the part of the Phantom Thieves." And for just a moment she had even entertained that idea. It passed very quickly though. Haru couldn't imagine how it could have gone wrong enough to be their fault.

"The public turned against us so quickly. Everyone was convinced we were nothing more than murderers." Her tone betrayed how appalling she found that to be and she balled her tiny hands up in frustration. "That was the point. We were used as scapegoats for all the mental shut-downs and deaths associated with them. The real culprit, the one you all had been hearing about prior to this incident was Goro Akechi. It seems he was gifted similar abilities to our leader but rather than use them as Ren did, he used them to create and enact a very elaborate revenge plan." Really, it sounded like something out of a movie to think about it now. It had been something of a twisted and overly complicated plan all for the sake of revenge. Despite what he'd done she found a twinge of sympathy plucking at her insides as she recounted that part.

"His father was Masayoshi Shido, the politician running for Prime Minister of Japan. He found out about the other world long before any of us came to our abilities. With Akechi's help he was using it to get rid of competition. Everything we went through, it was all the plot of one individual's quest for rulership of Japan." It disgusted her that her father's death had been about nothing more than Shido's desire for power. All of the lives that were destroyed, including Akechi's, had been because of this despicable adult's selfish wishes. "His palace truly was a reflection of his despicable selfish distortions. He truly thought he was some sort of captain who would be the only person to lead Japan to true glory." There was anger in her tone and she shook her head and let out a breath.

"That's....well, that's most of it." There was more of course, there was the Holy Grail and then the entire alternate reality. But...the plot with Shido was already quite a lot and she was sure it would be a lot for him to take in on it's own. She bowed her head after a moment. "I apologize for the lengthy explanation. I suppose I'm not overly gifted with such things. Perhaps the idea of us being heroes in a novel here is not too far off from our roles back home." Because truly all of that did sound like something out of some complicated noir show she might have watched

"Where were you placed?" It was a bit upsetting to hear he would not be in a building with her. The idea of rooming around others was such a foreign concept to her. "Oh! et me check," she rummaged inside of it and pulled out a gray key. "Gray it seems!"

“I understand,I appreciate you sharing just the important points then. It would at least put my mind to rest for now.” He responded with an uncertain, but appreciative done nonetheless. Once she started talking, though, the teen fell silent and folded his arms while he listened. No interruptions came from him while she explained at length what she could for the moment.

It was… An awful lot… By his expression, he was going to need some time to process the information. The name at least stuck out to him, more recognizable than he expected. “That detective? I see… I had felt something was odd about him when he ran into the group at the subway.” His comments and questions seeming more like needles digging in, tone sometimes a little too saccharine and… Well, Yusuke had found him oddly fake, though he couldn’t place his finger on why. The teen supposed he knew why that was now, but it also seemed far more complicated than one would expect. Another persona user, seeking revenge and acting as his father’s executioner? Shido sounded like an utterly deplorable human being, and the anger in Haru’s tone only further cemented the mental image he was developing of the situation.

Taking a deep breath, shaking his head, he offered her a solemn thank you for the information and details he was missing and stuck wondering about. “Please don’t apologize, I can only thank you, Haru. It’s clearly a large story to explain to someone who hasn’t been there yet… I appreciate having at least the important details. Being stuck here without answers has been truly vexing.” And he was going to have a lot to think about again, it seemed. Hopefully later, when his friend had more time to settle, he might be able to find out some specifics… But for now? He trusted her to have told him the important information on a subject that was clearly difficult to speak of.

“Ah, right… Anyone under the age of 18 is placed in this world’s orphanage, called the House of Solace.” He responded with a slight shrug as he unfolded his arms and adjusted the bag on his shoulder. “It’s not far from the apartments that you’re likely in. There’s a large courtyard space in the center of everything, so it’s only a short walk between.” He explained while he waited for her to dig her key out, noting its colour once she had. “Yes, that is one of the four coloured apartments. I can show you to it now if you like?”

Haru let out a tiny breath she hadn't realized she had been holding in after he finally spoke. She nodded. "Indeed. None other than the so called detective prince. Though...it seemed even that was fabricated. He caused the crimes he solved that allowed him to become famous." It was another small detail of the complicated situation that she hadn't managed to include. Though, she was very grateful he had at least already seen Akechi, that meant he at least would have something to connect the name to. Having not been around during the majority of their adventures meant that Haru wasn't quite certain who he knew and did not know.

"At the very least I can assure you that all things have been handled. We were able to defeat Shido and put a stop to his plans." That...didn't change the deaths that had already happened though. Nor had it changed the pain it had caused and the damage he had done. However, she did hope the knowledge that they had solved things would be at least some comfort. "I can imagine it must have been frustrating being trapped here alone with so many questions about this mystery person using the metaverse for their own means. I am happy that I could at least ease your mind there." That brought her a tiny bit of happiness herself, despite the heavy nature of the topic. "Were I trapped here before we had discovered the identity of my father's murderer..." she shook her head. That was not something she wanted to think about. After all it had caused her enough anguish back home. Here where she could truly do nothing? Well, she could understand how vexing that would be for him.

"An orphanage?" Her nose scrunched a bit at that and she frowned. "Is it acceptable for you?" At least back home she knew that the dorms he roomed at were at least relatively decent. She hoped this place was acceptable for him as well.

So everything, even his apparent detective’s intuition, had been a part of a carefully constructed facade… Yusuke shook his head a little. “That he would use his abilities in such a way…” It was so very abhorrent. Using his deeds to boost his own reputation, to look like a hero when he’d been something quite far from that… And ‘solving’ cases he’d caused himself…? How did one get to be in such a way? He frowned, musing to himself. That he had fooled so many people and would ruin so many lives, though… It was terrible, and clearly had cost Haru her father. “A truly terrible turn of events, but it is a relief to know the truth, and to hear that we managed to handle such a situation, despite such large complications…”

Yusuke knew she was right, though. “I admit, it had been frustrating on more than one occasion. Knowing I could be back there with everyone and helping, but having no control over staying or leaving this place? I had started to feel rather stuck, and unable to stop thinking about it if I let those thoughts wander too far.” Frustrating and lonely at times, not having the group he’d grown so comfortable with near enough to reach out to. It had started to feel like things would remain that way, despite some of the encouragement from others that his friends might still appear. “So I really do appreciate your sharing.” He awkwardly shuffled slightly, moving to lead her away from the busy streets and towards the buildings she would need to know the road to.

Haru’s expression wasn’t entirely unlike his own when he found out about that particular rule of this place. It had been rather annoying that they’d just known, that he’d had no say in where he went… But acceptable or not, he hadn’t had the choice. “It’s not unlike living in the dorms at Kousei? So by comparison it is quite acceptable. Though I would say the biggest difference is the wide variety of ages, some of my fellow residents have not learned to knock and there have been some incidents with paint spills being walked through.” And tracking it through the halls, which he’d received some light scolding about keeping them from tracking his mess around. It seemed being older meant he should be setting some kind of example.

"It's quite deplorable, is it not? Though, the true villain in it all was Shido. Akechi certainly did unforgiveable things, but Shido was Akechi's father. He left Akechi's mother and she died not long after." She shook her head and put her hands to her chest as a frown took her expression. If Shido hadn't left, or if he had at least acknowledged his own son, would things have been different for him? "He was used. Though...he still made his own choices." And those choices had resulted in the murder of her own father, which had thrown her own world into a storm that she had not been certain she could weather. After all of that it was probably quite strange that she still felt conflicted about how she should feel towards Akechi. There was no love for him, there wasn't even forgiveness precisely, but there was...sympathy. Finally, she looked up at him and forced a smile that still had sadness in it. "I am glad I could at least give you some comfort then! I doubt any of us expected to find ourselves saving Japan, but I am proud we were able to do so." It was probably more accurate to say they saved the world, but that was an even more complicated story to explain. Who would guess things could get more complicated?

"It can be quite difficult to bring yourself out of a mindset like that. I found, after my fathers death, that it was rather difficult to stop my thoughts from wandering to all the mystery surrounding it. I can only imagine how hard it must have been for you here alone." At least back home she had the others contacting her to check in. Even when she had not responded she had greatly appreciated how much they had shown their concern for her. Had she been completely alone she had no idea what she would have done. She certainly would have never found the strength to pull herself out of the sinking feeling that had overtaken her. She followed behind him with quick but short delicate steps and then gave him a more enthusiastic smile. "I know I am probably not quite the friend you would want here, but you're certainly not alone now!"

She nodded as he spoke. Well, at least it was not completely different to his dorms back home. "Ah, so privacy is a bit of a problem?" That was a shame. "I hope you were not held responsible for that!" It seemed like that was more their fault than his, but then again they were children....
bufubulous: (Unfortunate...)

[personal profile] bufubulous 2022-07-12 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Well… Now that left Yusuke with a rather complicated feeling concerning Akechi, if his expression were anything to go by as he took that detail in. It was hard to not draw parallels all things considered… It was wrong, what the self-proclaimed detective had done, of course. Truly horrible, and not something to be forgiven, since the decision to go down that path had been his. But… It was hard to not wonder at the similarities to their history. Had he not found the support and friendship in the phantom thieves when he found out the truth of his own mother’s death, would he have potentially traversed a similar path? He couldn’t say, of course. Hypothetical musings were only that… But still, it was a terribly sad thing to realize. “All the better that he was stopped, then. To allow such terrible deeds to continue to be done would be a tragedy.” And it was that which he kept in mind, at least. A small comfort to know that whatever specifics he was going back to, they at least put an end to such a horrible plot.

He nodded slightly, his tone sympathetic at the thought of how her thoughts had wandered on the subject of her father’s death. It would be terrible to be trapped in such things. He only hoped that they had at least offered some comfort and help after everything was said or done. That the group had pulled together for her in support as they had for other members, himself included, before. “The mind has a terrible way of forcing itself down roads and remaining on them.“ He shook his head slightly, before he quickly realized she was feeling a bit bad about her not being a recognizable friend. While it was true, it was sad to have met someone he didn’t know compared to those he’d already met… It wasn’t the worst! No friend could have shown up here at all, after all. And she was right. Neither of them were alone here, thanks to the other, at least. “Oh! Please don’t say such a thing. While it may be true, I don’t know you well yet… You are still a member of the Phantom Thieves and a future friend. That truly means something, after all!” She still knew him and clearly was familiar enough with him to consider him a friend. That meant that they would at least be in good company, and perhaps they would not be the only ones either, over time.

“A small one, yes… But I suppose that is to be expected, all things considered. Though there are one or two who are a little more polite and mannerly. Even a young girl who has an interest in painting! I’ve allowed her to use my canvases on occasion.” He responded with a light gesture, sounding pleased. Sure it meant he needed to buy… more supplies and canvases… But who was Yusuke to discourage a budding artist? “I suppose I was scolded lightly for not being mindful of the fact that little feet would be running around, something about being an example for the young… But that was the extent of it, after I promised to try to be careful.” Main word there? Try. It did not mean he would succeed, and it wasn’t as though he chose that place to stay. They had eventually had to make peace with the idea that the teen was a bit of a mess in general. “But I believe you’ll like the gray building’s lodgings. I’ve heard they’re quite nice, and have everything one needs to start out. Even some oddly powered small kitchen appliances!”

She nodded firmly but with a weight of sadness that would be impossible for Haru to hide even had she tried. "Indeed." They may not have been able to change the terrible events that had unfolded, but at the very least they had been able to prevent anything further from transpiring. That was quite an accomplishment in her own mind.

"You always have such an impressive way of describing things." And saying that the mind had a terrible way of forcing itself down roads was perfect for how she had felt in regards to her father's death and the situation surrounding it. "No matter how hard you try to avoid thinking about something painful the mind seems to find a way to create..." mmmm, what word would best describe that...? "...roadblocks that push you back to it." Yes, that did seem to work! She looked down though, seemingly not entirely comforted by his attempt to reassure her that he wasn't too disappointed. Unfortunately, Haru had quite the habit of being well...very hard on herself to put it lightly. "Thank you, that is very kind of you. I'm sure we can over come the challenges here."

She looked up and smiled. "Ah, that's lovely that you've found yourself a little apprentice!" That is what she took from that. "I see, well, I am sure it will be more than adequate for me. Though....I must admit I will be a bit worried about you."
bufubulous: (Come again?)

[personal profile] bufubulous 2022-07-14 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Did he? Well, subject matter aside, it brings a small appreciative smile to his face for a moment. ‘Impressive way of describing’ things was better than weird, after all! So Haru was quite kind to say as much. He listened though, as she followed that line of thought and added on to it based on her experience as well. “I believe the same could be said of you, even if the references I have to pull from are smaller at the moment. Because you are quite right… It makes it hard to move forward, always being pushed back to that particular subject or line of thought…” How often did he find himself reflecting on where he’d been, on the subject of what kind of man Madarame was. He shook his head, as if to dispel that thought, and offered a sad smile. “But I believe there is something to be said, at least, for the support and encouragement of those around us. Pulling us out of our own heads, I think.” The phantom thieves, once united, really were invaluable support in his experience.

Yusuke’s expression turned rather surprised, glancing at Haru as she suggested he’d found himself an apprentice. Is that what he could call it? Truthfully, he supposed in some small way it was… Even if she seemed well on her way to being quite talented on her own. It was nice to think he could at least offer support and help when she needed it. “I must admit, I hadn’t really thought of it that way? But… You may be right. She’s still quite delightful, though very quiet. I think you might like her.” She was quite the little lady, polite in her mannerisms compared to some children. But at the comment of Haru being worried about him, the teen tilted his head in her direction again. “Oh, you needn’t worry about me! I’m adjusting to it well enough. It’s still quite like the dormitories at Kousei, the difference in residents aside.”

Some people may have found his behavior and way of phrasing things weird, but not Haru. Haru almost found herself a bit jealous of the way he just said things without pause. It was something she also found herself admiring in Ryuji. Almost all of her own life had been spent speaking only when spoken to. It was only recently that she'd started to voice her own opinions and views on things. Still, she didn't have the flair for words that he did, that much was certain. "I suppose, in a way, we're even doing it now," she replied with a wry little smile of her own. It was quite the depressing subject, especially for a first (re)meeting, and she felt a bit bad for having brought it up at all. At least his statement about them supporting and pulling each other out made her smile more earnestly. "I do not know where I would be without you all." There was a touch of sadness over him not remembering that, but it was hardly his fault and she managed to hold it all back. "It will be rather strange here without everyone."

And there she went again making things slightly depressing. Perhaps she had a hidden talent for that. "I think you would make a fine teacher," she said with a nod and a smile. She should see him doing well teaching art to others, he had enough passion for it. "I doubt I can completely stop myself from worrying, but I am glad you're adjusting well."

Yusuke managed another, smaller smile at the suggestion. She was certainly right about that, too. Even as they were… starting again, more on his part than hers, perhaps since she already knew him, but he really was glad for the chance to. They could still support each other as phantom thieves and as friends, even as they got acquainted with one another properly again. “Nor do I, so I am glad to have your company… Even if the situation isn’t perfect, and I’m sure we both would prefer to be back in our world with everyone.” And for both of them to have memories of each other, but as imperfect as it was? It was still better than some alternatives. “It is quite strange, though. I can’t help but sometimes wonder what one of the others might do or think of something about this place in particular?” He was sure Futaba would have had a field day figuring out how the tell-phones really worked.

Perhaps it was that, or perhaps they were both simply very awkward people stuck in a very weird situation. Still, it was nice of her to say that. “Thank you, Haru. That’s very kind of you to say… I will have to see if I can prove it to be true or not, I suppose.” He added thoughtfully, not sure, but… Willing to at least try given people had expressed their interests in learning.

At her comment, he blinked in surprise. Well… Maybe it wasn’t surprising. They were teammates and friends, even if he didn’t know her yet. “I will do my best to ensure you have no need to worry, then. And I truly am adjusting quite well. It’s a very… different world. But quite exciting at times, there is much to see and consider for inspiration and subjects!”

"At the very least we are both more than accustomed to situations that are far from perfect." That was at least one way to look at things more positively. Both their lives had been on the far side of perfect despite what outside appearances may have shown. This situation was far from perfect but it was, at least from what she had seen so far, not that bad of a place. The hint of a frown touched her lips at his statement, there was something that made her quite sad about the thought that he'd been here alone with thoughts like those. It showed just how much he must have missed them. "I imagine I would think the same. Do you think Futaba would hate this place for it's lack of technology or would she be interested in how similar it was to something out of a video game?" That was the real debate here.

"It's already true to me." So there, she won by default of: who would actually continue to argue with her? She believed in him and the idea that he could be a good teacher. He'd probably be one of those eccentric teachers that people either loved or absolutely hated.

"Oh," she shifted a bit awkwardly and gave him a lopsided smile. "I apologize if my worry made you uncomfortable." She wasn't certain if it was simply surprise in his expression or confusion too. It was so hard to read people when you weren't precisely used to having anyone. "I'm glad you find inspiration here, though."

Yusuke couldn’t help but smile at the question. It was funny that they both had thought of the same person on this particular subject. “I believe it might be a slight mixture of both? I could see her bemoaning the primitive technology, but I also imagine she would be quite charmed by how like a video game this all could be seen! And I’m sure she would have at least distracted herself by trying to figure out how these strange tellphones work.” And if she could manipulate the programming somehow, perhaps.

Was this future knowledge or simply a belief that Haru held? It wasn’t as though Yusuke could say to himself, and to risk bringing about that sad expression again would be rather rude of him! So… She kind of won. At least for now, until such a time arrived that he felt he had proof to suggest otherwise. Though… He rather hoped she was right. “Then I shall have to take your word for it. Thank you for the confidence.” He responded with a small smile, just slightly hopeful for the next time he got to start painting with someone.

“Oh, no need to apologize. I understand and appreciate the concern, of course. I only don’t wish to add worry on to someone who is already adjusting to an odd situation.” Yusuke responded carefully, not really wanting to worry people in general, even if he had begun to realize that wasn’t exactly possible when you had friends who cared. Still, the teen’s expression lit up at her comment. “It has been truly wonderful. There are so many things I’ve never seen before! I have been kept quite busy trying to capture them on paper or canvas. I would be thrilled to show you, if you like, once you’re more settled in this place.”

"I would be lying if I tried to claim I did not see a bit of charm in how similar to a video game this was." A little known fact about Haru was that she did in fact enjoy playing video games. Of course she was nothing like Futaba, but she played more often than most would expect. If they would expect at all, which they might not given how little Haru spoke of her own interests. "I do imagine she would find these tellphones fascinating. It's strange, I think I might even miss everyone poking fun at how I texted back home." She could not quite deny that it was deserved, she was certainly...formal in the way she texted. Maybe someday she would figure out how to be a bit more casual. Someday.

"You are more than welcome." Ah yes, now she was even more self-satisfied. Back home it was almost unheard of for someone to say she was right. Or at least it had been until she'd met the Phantom Thieves. The idea that others would listen to her and think she had a point was still something of a foreign concept. It was rather nice.

"I'm afraid we might be on our way to another loop with me being worried about you worrying about me." She put a hand to her mouth as she giggled and shook her head. They really were something else. So, she'd put a stop to that right here. "I would be honored to see!" And very excited to actually.

Of course, Yusuke’s knowledge of Haru was still a slight blank slate, so while perhaps a small surprise, it wasn’t as much of a surprise as it might be for the others to learn about her enjoying video games. Yusuke hadn’t had much of a chance to play video games, but he had seen his friends play them a few times. There was something rather relaxing about settling in to snack and watch Futaba or Ren enjoy a game of some kind. Even he had to admit, the stories were often compelling and reminded him of some of the manga he used to sneak away to read when Madarame wasn’t present. “With all the odd creatures and the magical way this world seems to operate, it’s hard to not make such a comparison!”

He tilted his head at the knowledge that her texting might strike him as odd. “Is that something we commonly did when you texted?” It made him wonder how she texted now. Yusuke was absolutely going to be paying attention to that should she decide to text instead of using the other communication functions of the tellphone. “I feel as though, if anyone would be able to discover their inner workings and perhaps ‘hack’ them, it would be her?” He added with a slight grin. Futaba was quite impressive that way, and undoubtedly would be invaluable should they need to find a way to make the lines somewhat more secure.

Yusuke had to stifle a small, startled laugh himself. “Oh… You do make a rather good point, I must say. We have been rather cycling on that particular subject, haven’t we?” He added with a slightly embarrassed tone. It was very them, even if he hadn’t realized it. But he brightened to hear her interest in seeing what he had been working on. “Then once you’re settled, I will gladly share what I’ve worked on so far! I have a few pieces already in the works, and I dare say I may need a new sketchbook soon.” He really had at least kept himself busy and distracted by his art since arriving here.

"Odd creatures? Oh! I can't wait to see them!" Odd creatures were right up her alley as well. While some may disagree, Haru was firmly in the camp that insisted that quite a lot of the shadows they encountered were rather cute. Now that he'd mentioned odd creatures she found herself rather excited. A number of different thoughts, pulled both from games she'd played and shadows they'd encountered, came to her mind as she tried to imagine what they might look like. Hopefully she'd run into some soon! If not perhaps she could find out where they were located and seek them out...

She shook her head a bit too fervently at his question. "Not you!" She blushed lightly and looked down with a slightly awkward expression. "Ryuji did have a habit of bringing up how formally I spoke though." And, again, she really couldn't blame him. She knew she did text with quite a lot of formality, but she didn't know any other way! "I'm afraid I don't have much experience with it." So, she ended up treating it more like an email or letter than a casual conversation. She eventually looked up with a soft smile at the thought of Futaba trying to find a way to hack them. "I imagine we would not see her until she figured it out." Or until they just decided to barge their way into wherever she was. There was some degree of surprise in how quickly she was already finding herself missing them.

She matched his laugh with a little giggle of her own and nodded her head. "Indeed. And I would hate for us to become stuck on that again." They had done it enough and more than likely would have plenty of other occasions for it coming up. Her smile brightened though at his comments about being sure to show her once she'd settled more. "I can't wait to see!" It definitely gave her something to look forward to coming up.

One found shadows cute, the other found them and mementos inspiring for artistic endeavors… It was no wonder they got along, really. “The chocobos are the easiest to come across, but they are many others to be found with a little further looking! Many seem to reside in the sewers, but have been known to come out to the streets in the evenings, when there are fewer people around.” He explained, thinking back on the information and rumors he’d heard passed along. “I’ve been cautioned about exploring after dark, though. It’s been suggested that one would be smart to secure a weapon before doing so, though I think our Persona may provide some assistance in that until we could. There is a weapon-smith down at the docks who takes commissions, though.” He added, not sure what kind of weapon Haru might be experienced with. There was such a wide variety in their group already, after all.

Understanding dawned on Yusuke’s face almost immediately. “Ah, yes, that sounds quite like Ryuji. He is rather prone to such behaviors in my experience, and formalities are something the group drops quite quickly once you’re a member.” He smiled a little before continuing. “I’m sure you’ll improve with more practice! Even while here, the tell-phone does have a texting function even if I haven’t seen it used as much.” He was almost curious what her texting looked like, really. But at least she had the chance to experience texting in a less formal manner, even away from the group!

“She has amazing focus once her mind is set on something. I don’t doubt we wouldn’t see her till she made progress she was satisfied with unless we intervened.” Which, honestly, Yusuke couldn’t talk. He also shared an impressive level of focus when it came to his area of expertise and knew how difficult it was to switch from one mode to another when caught up in what he was doing. They were oddly similar in that respect, even if it was about entirely different things.

Yusuke was eager to show her what he’d worked on. How could he not when she sounded so genuinely excited?? But first thing came first, helping his friend settle into this strange new world. “Ah- here we are. I believe you’re in the building that’s accent colour corresponds with your key. As you can see, they’re actually in rather good shape compared to other parts of the city. I have heard that they’re quite comfortable.”

And both were seen as rather strange for their particular fondness for shadows. Not that Haru ever noticed how strange others found her comments, it went completely over her head and so far nobody had really tried to explain. "Chocobos, hmm? Even the name sounds rather cute..." she tapped a finger on her chin thoughtfully as she found herself daydreaming about what they might look like. Her expression immediately dropped at the mention of a weapon though and she looked rather depressed as the realization hit her that she was missing her scythe now. "Oh...I think I'll rather miss my scythe here. I am certain I could manage in these sewers with only Lucy but it would feel quite strange." And...not...quite as fun. Alright, truthfully, it would be considerably less fun. There was something freeing about the release that came with using her weapon.

"I'm certain he didn't mean any harm by it. It is quite different than the style of texting he employs." She was quick to jump to Ryuji's defense despite the fact that she knew it wasn't necessary. No matter what it was always easier for Haru to blame herself than others. "It's more my fault for being unable to adjust than his." But maybe he was right, perhaps here she'd have a better time adjusting with more experience.

"She truly is amazing, I always find myself impressed with what she's accomplished." Especially when it came down to their ultimate plan that they'd used against Akechi. That had been a ridiculous convoluted plan that somehow miraculously worked out.

She looked up at the building curiously as she pulled her key out with only a slight bit of hesitation. Somehow it was starting to hit her that it really was going to be quite different here. "How strange. I wonder why that is." That was not a question she imagined she'd find an answer to so easily. Finally after another moment she turned to him with a little half smile. "Thank you very much for walking me all this way."

“The smaller ones are certainly quite adorable, though the older they get, the larger they are. They become oddly… majestic?” At least Yusuke would describe them as such, having seen them running around and wandered closer to those hitched to posts or carts while stationary to get a better look at them. He had sketched a few now, admiring the bright yellow of their feathers or the other slightly odd colours that they seemed to have. He was sure she’d be quite delighted by the sight of them, by the sounds of it.

A scythe? Then Yusuke nodded quickly, adding a mental note for later. “Then I would be happy to show you where the forges can be found. They seem keen to try to make most kinds of weaponry, even styles they haven’t heard of like my katana. They’re located in the harbor district, so not terribly difficult to find.” He hummed lightly as she continued. “So your persona is named Lucy?” What did Lucy look like, he wondered? How elegant and unique might it be? Yes, Yusuke rather hoped to have the chance to see it one day. Undoubtedly, it could be an excellent source of inspiration.

“No, he doesn’t tend to think before he speaks in my experience…? So if he were to say something without meaning harm… That does sound like the Ryuji I know.” Whether he meant what he said or not, Ryuji tended to be the sort of person to speak first and think second… Usually… Which tended to make him seem more uncouth upon first impressions. But… Well, Yusuke had come to realize firsthand that the teen had a good heart and had been quite generous and thoughtful at times. And Yusuke would be a liar to say he didn’t also tend to say things without considering how they sounded. It was just in a slightly different way. Thus, they tended to get at each other. Though it was generally not something that lasted, more of a general squabble or poking at one another without being entirely serious. Then it was done and forgotten. “And I would say it takes time to adjust, after all, if it’s something you are unused to. Practice and experience are imperative to improvement.”

Yusuke found himself in agreement. Even in the short time he knew Futaba she had accomplished such impressive things. Even concerning her own attempts at getting out and spending time with them compared to her solitary life before joining the phantom thieves. He could only imagine what she might have continued to accomplish as time passed.

Nodding lightly, he looked up at the building again. “I often wonder that myself, other than perhaps that they were created specifically with new arrivals in mind when this world was starting over…?” As for the colours, he was sure there had to be some reason for how people were divided into specific buildings. The teen just wasn’t sure of what that reason was. “You are quite welcome, though, Haru. I’m glad that I could help a friend with finding their way around this strange world. Should you need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me on the tellphone!” He gestured slightly across the court yard to where the House of Solace could be found. “I’m also probably just over there, should you not be able to reach my phone.” Yusuke added, adjusting the strap on his shoulder bag.

"I think I may make those at the top of my list of things to try to find!" She really wanted to see them with that description. Luckily for her they were pretty common, so it probably wouldn't take long for her to stumble upon one. This place certainly was sounding more and more interesting.

"Thank you! Even if I did not end up requesting anything from them it might be quite interesting to see a forge." How strange it was to think of a place making everything by hand like that. It would certainly be interesting to see how it all might work. She nodded at his question. "Yes, Lucy was my third awakening. Before her I had Milady and then Astarte." Ah, it was so...odd to think he didn't know that alright. There was still a pang of sadness to that, but it passed quickly enough.

"In a strange way, I often admire his ease with words." It really wasn't something to be admired, but Haru couldn't help it. "He always speaks his mind without any hesitation." Unlike her. It really was rather impressive, though she could see how it might often come off rather poorly. After all he also rarely thought about how he phrased things which did lead to the occasional squabble with others. "Perhaps I'll give it more practice here!" Then she'll show Ryuji by being an expert texter just like the other kids.

"Hmm," she looked thoughtfully at the buildings as she considered what he was saying. "But why would they want to organize us? And what criteria does it use?" Was there any? Perhaps it was just random based on arrival or something. "I will certainly keep your offer in mind. I suppose I should go in and try and get myself settled. Thank you again, Yusuke. I'm quite glad you're here."

Yusuke offered a smile. It was nice to hear that she was glad he was there… Even with their rather awkward circumstances aside. He couldn’t deny he was glad to have found a friend had arrived, whether he knew her or not… It was going to be a nice change of pace after the last couple months. “Yes, I would be glad to help anytime. I know how odd it is to get used to this place and to adjust.” He responded, hoping she would keep the offer in mind. It was important for them to stick together as fellow phantom thieves, after all!

“But you’re right, I should let you get settled.” He added, not wanting to keep her from familiarizing herself with her new… home… if it could be called that. This world wasn’t home, but they certainly were here for however long this world kept them. “And… I am very glad that you’re here too, all things considered. I look forward to getting to know you better, Haru.” He nodded slightly in parting, hoping she’d be in touch again if she needed anything. “Do take care!”
